The Inclusive Health Equity Literacy Scholarship reflects the Center’s praxis value of Science for Equity. Created to address a foundational yet often overlooked barrier to inclusive education: the cost of required course materials. This scholarship is reserved for students enrolled in practice-based programs across public health disciplines—MPH, DrPH, EdD, DHSc, and PhD (where engagement in coursework is not abstract, but directly related to creating useful benefits for a given community, beyond publications).
The award supports students in acquiring the materials necessary to participate fully in their courses and to integrate assignments into their broader scholarly and practice trajectories. Applicants are asked to clearly articulate the material benefits of this support beyond publications—demonstrating how access to required resources strengthens their training, applied learning, and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the field. In this way, the scholarship not only removes logistical and financial obstacles but also reinforces the principle that equity begins within the classroom itself.
By focusing on early- and mid-career trainees, particularly those from historically marginalized or socially under-resourced backgrounds, the scholarship affirms the Center’s commitment to building an inclusive academic ecosystem. It ensures that talented students are not held back by inequities in access and that they are positioned to thrive in practice-based public health education, which demands both rigor and real-world application.
This scholarship operates as a reimbursement: students will be directly reimbursed (up to $500 but we may reimburse a partial amount) for required course materials already purchased, ensuring timely access to the resources they need while reducing financial strain. While we deeply value the time and effort students dedicate to completing the application, we regret that not all applicants can be accommodated. Please reach out should you have any questions.
